...I get to enjoy more than the usual.
I went a bit over budget last weekend, but I have no regrets.
I went to my favorite optical shop for a checkup and found out that my eye grade had indeed changed. So, I placed an order for my first ever progressive lenses and picked out a new frame. I have to wait 10 days and then I'll share how the new glasses look. That was my holiday gift to myself because the cost of progressive lenses is rather high. But I need it for work and for life in general.
After the glasses I got the latest 2023 planner for my Travelers Notebook. Then a simple white top to wear to the office party next week. The white top is a requirement for the picture-taking. I realize do not own any white piece of clothing.
And then a savory meal at a favorite restaurant that serves meals from fresh organically grown ingredients. I had broccoli rabe arugula pasta, preceded by ricotta and sourdough, complemented by black tea kombucha.
My sister has often commented that when I post about the nice things I get to enjoy, I also tend to somehow cancel it out with a "but". Like I'd counter the good experience with an assurance that I also have a bad thing going. Because I feel somewhat guilty for feeling good. Like I need to justify that moment of enjoyment. That it's ok for me to be a little bit happy even while there are others suffering somewhere. I could trace this complex to a childhood experience but that's for another post.
In any case, I will just say last weekend was quite good. The meal I enjoyed has revived my desire to revive my own home cooking. Perhaps that will be one of my big projects for 2023.
How have you been doing?
